concerning young Brahms

In 1848 Hamburg, fifteen-year-old Brahms heard Beethoven's Violin Concerto for the first time, played by the seventeen-year-old virtuoso Joseph Joachim.

What were his impressions? How amazing it would be, after that concert, to overhear Brahms tell someone or even the night what he felt! That astounding concerto falling on the ears and into the soul of Brahms -- it gives me quiet vertigo wondering about such a thing.
